In today’s society, one can unarguably state that we as people are diminishing the supply of natural resources at an exponentially quicker rate than it is being replaced; so the question is no longer when will we run out of resources, but what alternative sources can we implement to suffice our infinite demand of energy?
Solar energy is one of the more popular and easier alternative energy sources that may be used to heat homes. Most people ask why they should even consider using solar power, but the answer is almost too simple.
In lamest terms, the solar panels have what is called a silicon-based medium inside that once the sun’s rays hit it, electrons are put into motion thus creating electricity. For homes, this energy is stored in solar panels and transferred to whatever system is attached. For instance, in most homes, the solar panel is attached to the water source allowing the home to be heated. So not only is solar energy a way to cut costs, but also decreases the negative effects on the environment. People tend to ask what the catch is, and sadly there is somewhat of a catch.
The actual cost of a solar system is pricier than that of a natural gas or electric system, but the long-term savings of using a solar-powered system easily pay off these costs.
Although many people believe that their personal impact on the world by using natural resources is minimal, it is not. Every person does give off a tiny bit of pollution individually, but when one adds the entire population together, the once infinitesimally small number is now of gargantuan proportions.
Solar energy is always around us, so why not take advantage of it? What is stopping you from taking a step towards the “light?”
